The first week and the first tournament on the 'Road to the US OPEN' is in the books and Marty Fish not only saves two match points but takes the trophy home from Atlanta. I hope this is more to come for Marty and since he has secured his position for the US Open he is one of the top americans this year to follow to the open and you can follow him to Los Angeles where he will be the number 1 seed this coming week at the Farmers Open. Over in Hamburg at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament also named the 'bet-at-home Open' (which I wrote about in a previous blog post in where I felt this tournament sponsor was way off base and having a professional tennis tournament provide prize money from sports betting, especially when you read information on how ATP tour players are being investigated for wagering and how the ATP has an anti-wagering rule). Gilles Simon proved that a frenchman can win the German Open.
Over at the tennisidentity website I was reading an article about stringing from Roland Garros this year. The Babolat team did a great job there and although I have never strung in France, I know a couple of the guys in the picture for sure are great stringers that I have worked with in the past. You can find the article at the TennisIdentity website. Find out what a day in the life of a professional stringer is like.
Next week look for some good tennis from THE GSTAAD OPENwith the top seed being ranked ATP 110 (ATP 250 event). Most eyes will be on Los Angeles with the Farmers Classic happening at the LA Tennis Center this week. Mardy Fish, Juan Del Potro, Marcos Baghdatis, Thomaz Bellucci are the top seeds. The women will be heading off to Stanford for the Bank of the West Classicwith Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Marion Bartoli and Samantha Stosur as top seeds.
DON't FORGET: The USTA currently is running a "Follow Me to the US OPEN" contest to win to go to the 2012 US OPEN.
