New Elo Ranking System for Tennis Ladders

ELO rating has one flaw in that it puts players with no record above players with losing records. My members will not like that idea much. We got used to the True Rank but I will have to go with one of the other options. Most likely custom points. Anyone have a recommended custom points setup that their members like?

I would have preferred a more refined version of the 'True Rank'. Maybe we can get Sagarin to help out. haha
The reward of games won or lost by each player never was included in the computation. Something my members always wished for.

I agree with Roger W that it would be nice to somehow display the rank of those who haven't yet played befow the rank of those who have already played and lost.

Something still isn't quite making sense to me, though. If I look at the following matches on our newly calculated ladder, I see the following:

Tyler / Richard 5 1466 / 733 1526 / 845
Daniel / Shelley 3 1851 / 1663 1802 / 1467

Rob / Ted 6 1500 / 1500 1900 / 1900
Daniel / Deb 0 1500 / 1500 1100 / 1100

In the top match, a significantly weaker team beat a stronger team, and their points moved what to me seem to be a reasonable amount. In the lower match, two evenly matched teams played and the winner gained an extraordinary number of points.

Seems to me that a weaker team winning a match should be rewarded more than an evenly matched team winning a match.

I would also expect the total points that the players on one team gains would be equal to the total points that the other team loses. Doesn't seem to be the case as in most of the matches I checked it seems like the points gained surpasses the points lost. If your intent is to reward people simply for playing more matches, that would make sense, but at least to me, it seems like a "zero sum game" would make more sense.

Elo is great.
It's an improvement over True Rank for sure in my 3.5 to 4.5 ladder.
If people want big points, they have to beat the top players.

Lower ranked players gain more points on a win and higher ranked players loses the same points when they lose and vice versa.

I like this new ranking system and have ended the current ladders on my network and started new ones with ELO ranking system.

I do have a request for Trevor. Do you suppose we could have small trophy icons next to or under members' avatars/names for players how have won past ladders?

Ah yes. Now I remember. Things have gotten so much easier to navigate at GTN I miss links and buttons that are right under my nose!
