Tennis Ladder Description
Brittany Men’s Doubles Challenge Ladder — Rule Summary

Purpose

The Brittany Men’s Doubles Ladder is an ongoing, fixed-team challenge competition. The goal is simple: challenge up, win, and climb the ladder. The website standings are the official rankings.

Teams & Rankings

Teams consist of two fixed partners. Each player may belong to only one active team in this ladder. New teams normally enter at the bottom. A new partnership is considered a new team unless the Commissioner determines otherwise. Initial rankings are established by the Commissioner; thereafter the website’s leap frog rules control movement.

Challenges

A team may challenge either of the two teams immediately above it. Teams may have only one active challenge/match at a time. A challenge is official once accepted. Eligibility is determined when the challenge is issued; subsequent ladder movement does not invalidate an accepted match.
Challenges should be accepted or declined within 48 hours. The challenger should offer at least three reasonable playing windows across two days when possible. Accepted matches should normally be completed within 7 days.
Repeated challenge avoidance or abuse may be addressed by the Commissioner.

Rematches

Teams may play each other again during the season, but immediate rematches are not permitted. The website is configured for one unique match before the same opponent may be challenged again.

Match Format

Matches are best 2 of 3 sets. At 6–6 in a set, play a standard 7-point tiebreak. If teams split the first two sets, and all players agree, an optional 10-point match tiebreak may be played instead of a full third set.

Results & Ladder Movement

The winning team should enter the result on the website promptly. If the challenger wins, the website’s Leap Frog system moves the challenger into the challenged team’s position, with affected teams shifting down. If the challenger loses, ladder positions remain unchanged.

Scheduling, Courts & Balls

Teams arrange their own match time and court. The challenger supplies a new can of balls unless otherwise agreed.

Availability

Players unable to compete because of travel, injury, or similar circumstances should use the website’s unavailable status. Maximum unavailable time is 30 days unless approved by the Commissioner.

Substitutes & Interrupted Matches

Substitutes are not permitted unless approved by both the opposing team and Commissioner. Weather-delayed or interrupted matches resume from the exact score where play stopped unless all players agree otherwise.

Sportsmanship & Administration

Make fair line calls, announce the score, respect opponents, and resolve minor disagreements in the spirit of friendly neighborhood competition. The Commissioner may resolve unusual circumstances, scheduling disputes, repeated avoidance, team changes, or situations not specifically covered by these rules.

Best of 3 Sets: Best of 3 sets is first to win 2 sets. Each set is first to win 6 or more games with a margin of 2 games. A tie-breaker is played if each team has won 6 games.

Example scores: 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 or 6-4, 7-6

15. The following system will be used to compute a player's position on the ladder.

Leap Frog: This is the most basic and straightforward ranking system. When a lower-ranked player defeats a higher-ranked player, the lower-ranked player “leapfrogs” the higher-ranked player and takes their position. The higher-ranked player, along with everyone ranked between them, moves down one spot. If the higher-ranked player wins, the rankings do not change. For doubles matches where players are ranked individually, the same concept is applied using points. The winning players receive a new point value equal to the average point value of their opponents, which determines their new positions in the rankings.

16. All ladder members should maintain current contact information. If you change phone numbers or e-mail addresses, you must update your profile so other member can contact you and you will receive email notifications.
