Singles Box League 2023 is a tennis ladder in Farnham, England.
BOX LEAGUE FORMAT:
------------------------------
The box league format contains 6 players per tier (tier A, tier B,... tier C and so on...) but the 6 players are split into 2 boxes in the same tier, 3 players per box. Idea here is we increase the players per tier from 4 to 6, but reduce the games you play per round from 3 to 2 to cater for other activities such as doubles/socials/holidays...
Each round will run from 1st to 28th of each month and for 5 months (5 rounds) starting 1 April.
At the end of each round the 2 winners from the same tier will be promoted to the tier above, and the two 3rd place players from above tier come down into the tier below (3rd place in A1 goes to B1, 3rd place in A2 goes to B2 etc.). The two 2nd placed players remain in the same tier but switch boxes with each other.
The box winners of round 5 (round 5 only) will meet in a one-off final against the winner from the other box of the same tier to decide the champion of that tier/division. Please note the points system as described below will only be used to rank players on a round by round basis, and therefore only the points won in round 5 will be used to decide the 1st place positions of each box.
MATCH FORMAT:
-----------------------
Best of 3 sets, 3rd set championship tie-break (first to 10 points and by at least a 2 point margin )!
POINTS PER MATCH:
----------------------------
The points system has been geared up to encourage play essentially. It will reward those who play (win or lose), and will scale the points won based on the score line of the match...
The winner will get somewhere between 71-100 points per match won!
The loser will get somewhere between 20-49 points per match lost!
e.g. if you win 6-0 6-0 then you get 100pts and the loser gets 20pts.
e.g. if you win 7-6 0-6 1-0 then you get 71pts and the loser gets 49pts.
If you win by match forfeit you will receive 62pts and the loser 0pts.. or both zero points if both unable to play.
RULES:
----------
Players must organise when they play each other in the round.
If you agree a date to play but later cancel then you must give at least 4hrs notice, failure to do so gives the other player the right to claim the win via a match forfeit. Even if you give adequate notice if there is no reasonable time left in the round to replay then you may lose by forfeit!
If someone decides part way into the box league to drop-out from the competition, then they will be relegated to the bottom box at the end of the current round and the winner from the box below will naturally fill their spot in the following round. Additionally in the box below the 3rd placed person will not be relegated and will remain in their box, and the winner from the lower box will still feed into that box ensuring we have 3 players in that box and so on... the lowest box however may end up with just 2 players in that box - if that happens then both players will need to play each other twice in that round....
